Demonstration, exercises, studio projects and critiques regarding three dimensional design elements and principles.


Note(s): General Education and Humanistic or Artistic Expression designated course.  Recommended to be taken before any other studio art courses. Students cannot receive credit for both ARTS 102 and ART 102.


2. Detailed Description of Course

The purpose of this course is to continue to develop the student’s awareness of the underlying abstraction inherent in all forms of visual art.  References will be made to Art 101 and 3-D problems will also be employed.

    1) 3-D space, line, surface visual problems
    2) 2-D visual problems
    3) Linear perspective studies

3. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Students will learn visual relationships through visual exercises and class critiques.  Individual attention is given to each student in the lab section of the course.

4. Goals and Objectives of the Course

Upon completion of the course requirements, the student will implement advanced constructions of design principles in their art work:

    1) Advanced visually effective combinations of the formal elements of art and design, i.e., space,
       line, value, etc.
    2) Sophisticated individual expression

5. Assessment Measures

Graded assignments may include weekly visual exercises, mid-term and final on art concepts and critical analysis assessment.

6. Other Course Information

Students may be assigned library research and gallery visits.
