COSD 512: Audiologic Rehabilitation
Prerequisites: Admission to COSD graduate program or enrollment in the Teacher of Hearing Impaired certification program.
Credit Hours: (3)
This course will include an in-depth study of sensory devices and intervention approaches for children with hearing loss.
Detailed Description of Content of the Course
The major topics addressed in this course are as follows:
Discussion of family needs and supports will emphasize the need for cultural awareness and sensitivity in a diverse client population.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
The course will consist of lecture, demonstration, discussion, and student presentations.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
The goals of this course are for students to:
1. identify and describe the characteristics of children with hearing loss
2. identify and describe family needs and supports
3. identify and describe communication options
4. identify and describe hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening
devices
5. identify and describe educational supports for children with hearing loss
Assessment Measures
Grading may be based upon in-class exams, student presentations, short term papers, and a final examination.
