DNCE 205: Low-Intermediate Ballet
Credit Hours: (2) Three to Four-and-a-half hours technique.
Based on the Vaganova System, a scientific, thorough, and highly expressive classical ballet training method, students study theory as well as the physical practice of fundamental barre and centre, including adagio and allegro techniques at the low-intermediate level of professional study, applying acquired knowledge and skills to develop their professional practice. Students critically reflect on their developing professional identity and practice within professional contexts through weekly journaling and/or a final reflection paper.

Detailed Description of Content of Course
Addition of demi-pointe to adagio at the barre and center; learn turns and transitional movements from one pose to another by using plie, releve, and tombe; Begin to learn battues (beats)

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
A professional approach in which the fundamental technique and theory of the Vagaonova method of training in classical ballet is solidified and the nuances of the art form are introduced to the student with a basic ballet background.

Assessment Measures
The student may be measured through direct observation by the instructor, digital/video taping for analysis, practical and written exams, and class attendance, and weekly journals or final written reflection papers.
Other Course Information
The student's basic and traditional dance education may be supplemented by such aids as viewing videos of classical ballet, and attending live performances.
