FORL 488H: Honors Project

Prerequisites: Enrollment in Honors Programs; completion of all other Honors Program requirements; minimum 3.5 GPA in all courses and in the foreign language option

Credit Hours: (3)

Project and topic to be explored will be determined by the student and the faculty member with whom the student work. (An honors project may be a written or a written and performance-based project). Course may not be repeated, nor may a student earn below a “B” in order to receive credit toward completion of the Honors Program requirement.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

The content of the course will vary with each student. The student will do one of the following: a) write a researched critical essay; or b) a comparable creative manuscript or other original writing; or c) submit a writing and performance-based project; or d) take a comprehensive examination. All final projects must be approved by the department and the Honors Council.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The student’s final project supervisor will ask two other faculty members, one of whom will be from the Foreign Languages Department, to serve as readers. The student’s work will be evaluated by this committee.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

The goal of this course is to provide foreign language majors in the Honors Program with the opportunity to synthesize their four-year career in the Foreign Languages Department. The final project should demonstrate the ability to analyze and synthesize, to write a sustained piece of original work or research, and to communicate ideas effectively.

 

Assessment Measures

The supervisor of the final project and the final project committee will be responsible for evaluating the success of the project.

 

Other Course Information

The final project must be written in the foreign language in which the student is specializing.
