Catalog Description
Students focus on the history and current status of community health, as well as the
determinants of health in populations. The social, political, economic, and biomedical
aspects of health and illness and key health issues facing communities today will
be explored.

Goals and Objectives of the Course:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Examine key community health issues in the United States.
- Discuss the role of social, cultural, economic, and biomedical factors affecting community
health.
- Assess prevention and control strategies to improve health conditions in populations.
- Compare and contrast the role of health and public health organizations in improving
community health in the United States.

- Assess health information and scientific data for evaluating the health status of
individuals and communities.
- Apply critical thinking skills based on empirical evidence and contextual frameworks
in the health sciences.
- Analyze ethical issues and challenges facing individual and community health.
