ITEC 488H: Honors Capstone Project

Prerequisite: Completion of all the required information technology courses up to the 300-level courses; enrollment in the Honors Program; senior standing.

Credit Hours: (3)

To earn a bachelor's degree with honors in Computer Science and Technology or Information Science and Systems, a student must complete a research project, write a report and make an oral presentation of the work done. In order to be eligible for a degree with honors, a student must earn a grade of `A' or `B' for the final project. Course may not be repeated.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

The content of the course will vary with each student. The student will complete a research project, write a report on his work and make an oral presentation of the work done.

The project will involve a topic in computer science that is accessible to undergraduates.

All final projects must be approved by the department and the Honors Council.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The student will decide the topic of the project with the help of the final project supervisor. The student will work on the project independently.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

To provide students in the honors program in computer science with the opportunity to address a significant problem in computer science. The final project should demonstrate the student's ability to analyze a research problem and synthesize an appropriate solution. The student should also be able to communicate, both orally and through writing, the work that has been done.

 

Assessment Measures

The supervisor of the final project will be responsible for evaluating the success of the project and assigning it a final grade.
