IPHE 600: Interprofessional Global Health Strategies

Students review global health issues and cultural variations in the delivery of local, national, and global healthcare. The course focuses on social determinants of physical and mental health and societal variations contemporary physical and mental issues impacting socially-just healthcare delivery. One credit provides foundational concepts, and students select modules of interest for additional credits.
Course Content
Students can take this course for 1-3 credits.
All students take modules on the following topics, with which provide foundational material. Students taking the course for 1 credit will only take these foundational modules.
A student taking the course for 2 credits will take 3 additional modules from the list below and a student taking the course for the full 3 credits will take all of the following modules. Module topics are meant to be flexible to allow for the addition of current topics and events as they occur in the world.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
This will be a module based-course that will contain speakers inside and outside of RU. Each module can stand alone, though the modules for those who opt to take the course for 2 or 3 credits will build upon the foundational modules taken in the first 4-5 weeks. Participants will engage interprofessionally and collaborate with other students in multiple programs, reflect on case studies, present on various topics, watch audiovisuals, and interact with speakers. Some online content will be synchronous and other will be asynchronous, which may allow for greater overall participation of busy students who are taking this for an elective outside of their programs, most of which are lock step and leave little flexibility for electives.
