MGNT 101: Introduction to Business and Entrepreneurship (GE)

Provides a basic background for the study of businesses and entrepreneurship, and promotes an understanding of the fundamental business practices.

Note(s): General Education and Applied Learning designated course.  Restricted to freshmen and sophomores only.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Methods of instruction are designed to introduce the student to the fundamental practices of business. The primary methodology is lecture with student participation in case studies, exercises, and project assignments.  Emphasis is on the fundamentals of business and business opportunities from both a domestic and international perspective.

 

Goals and Objectives of Course

The student will be able to formulate the functions of business as a vocation or a tool for community involvement. The student will differentiate competition and risk taking and rewards for success in business. Fundamental accounting, marketing, finance, and management practices will be integrated into the student's core of business knowledge. The student will demonstrate understanding of the changing practices and roles of business in the global society.

 

Assessment Measures

Graded assignments, in-class tests, pop quizzes, and a final examination with additional assessment based on oral or written presentation of projects, cases, and class participation will be used to assess the student.

 

Other Course Information

Videotapes and other examples of business in action may be used to illustrate business practices to the student.
