Two hours (1) or Four hours (4) presentations and discussion.

Intensive work on individual projects in computer music and related research, with class discussion of these and of current developments in the field. Graduate credit requires work at advanced levels. May be taken again for credit.

Allows for intensive work on individual projects in computer music and related research, with class discussion of these and of current developments in the field. Emphasis on composition, performance, application development, and research in psycho-acoustics. Graduate credit requires work at advanced levels. May be taken again for credit.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

This course will consist of presentations made by students enrolled in the course thus allowing individuals to pursue a wide variety of advanced computer music topics as approved by the instructor. Students will make two 50-minute presentations. The first will include discussion of objectives, preliminary findings, a survey of existing literature, and an outline of this presentation also containing a bibliography. The second presentation should feature conclusive results based on objectives presented in the first presentation, a survey of the project's impact on existing literature, examples which demonstrate the project's relevance within the context of existing work.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

At the completion of the course students will have read existing literature on an advanced computer music topic chosen by the student, and approved by the instructor. The student will have made significant progress toward a unique approach to the subject in a completed project, and should be in a position to submit the completed work to professional trade publications and scholarly conferences. Students registered for graduate credit are expected to make presentations which illustrate advanced experience and proficiency; and which exhibit a thorough knowledge of topics distinguished by library research and a survey of professional journals.

 

Assessment Measures

Course assessment will be based on fulfillment of stated project criteria, project execution, and contribution to the field of computer music.
