Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

This class will involve lecture, manuscript, score and aural analysis and scholarly research. Each student will be required to submit a research paper dealing with a specific problem or area of interest.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

Graduate students in music are expected to gain an in depth understanding of the art of music in the renaissance period, and to relate that understanding to the larger context of music in western civilization from that era to the present.

 

Assessment Measures

Grades will be determined by assessment of the quality of scholarship of student's research paper and by assessment of a comprehensive final examination.
