MUSC 641:642. Practicum in Music Therapy
One and a half hours of lecture, 3-5 hours of field work per week (2:2).

Prerequisites MUSC620

Advanced music therapy practice under approved clinical supervision. MUSC641 requires clinical work only. MUSC542 emphasizes administrative and supervision practices.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with clinical populations that the student may be unfamiliar with, thus broadening their clinical perspective in music therapy. To provide clinical experience with that population is the major emphasis of the course. Additionally, some experience will focus on administrative and supervisory techniques and skills (primarily 642).

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Students will develop a working relationship with outside agencies, implementing and providing music therapy services for that facility. Research into the supervisory and administrative aspects of the profession will be emphasized for MUSC642.

 

Goals and Objectives

At the conclusion of the course, the student will:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of developing and implementing music therapy program for an outside faculty.
  • Demonstrate administrative and supervisory skills relevant to the music therapy profession.

 

Assessment Measures

Graded assignments will include clinical logs of student experience, written papers and projects.
