V. Course Description:
During this clinical practicum, students participate in supervised clinical experiences
and selected observational clinical experiences that complement the accompanying nursing
theory courses. This is the first in a series of four clinical practicum courses whereby
students progress toward achievement of the program outcomes. In this course, students
are expected to reach the novice level of clinical performance.
VI. Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this clinical practicum, the student will be able to perform the
following objectives at the novice level.
- Provide safe, quality patient-centered care while integrating cultural competence,
and evidence-based practice.
- Integrate knowledge and skills in informatics and patient care technology into the
delivery of patient-centered care.
- Demonstrate skills in leadership, quality improvement, and patient safety to provide
high quality care within interprofessional teams.
- Incorporate strategies to improve and promote individual, family, and population health
in a variety of healthcare settings.
- Examine the impact of socio-cultural, legal, economic, regulatory, and political factors
influencing healthcare delivery and practice.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professionalism, professional values, and lifelong learning.
