V.    Course Description:

Students develop psychomotor, cognitive, and affective nursing skills and the theoretical basis necessary to practice safely and competently across the lifespan. This course is presented in an integrated lecture/skills practice format. (2 credits lecture, 2 credit skills practice)

VI.    Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Identify fundamental safety practice skills and infection control to be used in the healthcare profession. 
  2. Perform dosage calculations and medication administration competently and accurately. 
  3. Apply the nursing process and competent nursing skills to provide patient-centered care. 
  4. Integrate knowledge and skills in informatics and patient care technology in nursing care. 
  5. Demonstrate professionalism, therapeutic communication, and cultural and ethnic awareness when using nursing skills.
