Supervised clinical training in the role of PMHNP working with adults, older adults and families
2. Detailed Description of Course
Focus is on clinical assessment, diagnosis, and a variety of EB therapeutic treatment modalities with individuals, groups, and families, emphasize on health promotion and disease prevention strategies.
3. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Clinical training with supervision by MSW, Psychologists, PMHNP, and/or psychiatrists specializing in adult and/or geriatric psychiatric illnesses.
4. Goals and Objectives of the Course
1) Synthesizes and applies theories and EB models for psychotherapeutic modalities
to adults and
older adults with psychiatric disorders.
2) Apply principles of best practices for using psychopharmacology to treat psychiatric
disorders.
3) Communicate risks, benefits and outcomes from psychotropic drugs.
4) Apply principles of best practice for using psychotherapeutic treatment modalities.
5) Perform a comprehensive psychiatric and mental health assessment and diagnostic
evaluation
with adults and older adults.
6) Demonstrate documentation of assessment, diagnosis, planning, and intervention
to assist in
obtaining expected outcomes.
7) Involves the family and patient in expected outcomes of treatment using clinical
guidelines
linked to positive outcomes.
8) Demonstrates competence in using prescriptive authority, procedures, referrals,
treatment, and
therapies in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations.
9) Provides health teaching and disease prevention in all aspects of the patients
care.
10) Seeks consultation appropriately and communicates effectively to supervising
preceptors.
11) Discuss ethical issues related to treatment of psychiatric disorders using
Code of Ethics for
Nurses to guide practice.
5. Assessment Measures
Participation in at least 270 hours of clinical supervision working with children,
adolescents and their families
