PSYC 612: Psychometric Theory

Prerequisites: Graduate standing in psychology, and PSYC 611 or an equivalent course

A comprehensive survey of measurement theory and practice in psychology. Topics covered may include scaling models, validity, reliability, measurement error and correlation analyses, multivariate correlational analysis, areas of assessment (vocational, personality, intellectual), the evaluation process and the report-writing process.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Lecture and demonstrations along with class discussion will be used to learn about measurement theory and how to develop good measurement instruments.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

  • Graduate students will be able to develop measurement instruments in their work and research.
  • Graduate students will become better consumers of pre-packaged tests.

 

Assessment Measures

Graded assignments may include in-class tests, a final examination, pop quizzes, the assignment and presentation of exercises, and projects, and class preparation and participation.

 

Other Course Information

A detailed applied take-home project will be required.
