PSYC 654: Performance Appraisal
Prerequisite: Psychology 651 or permission of instructor

Covers major methods of appraising employee performance and utilizing these appraisals to improve employee productivity.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
The course will survey the current techniques and literature dealing with the appraisal
of employee performance. Objective
criteria such as productivity and absenteeism, and subjective rating scales including
Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scales,
Forced Choice Scales, Goal Setting, and Critical Incidents will be discussed. Legal
issues, performance appraisal interviews, and uses of performance appraisal will also
be covered.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Course will include formal lecture, discussion, and hands-on projects.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
Students will develop an in-depth knowledge of the theory and application of performance appraisal.
Assessment Measures
Graded assignments may include essay exams, several performance appraisal projects, and in-class projects.
