I. Course Title: Topical Seminar in Sociology

III. Credit Hours: 3 credits

IV. Prerequisites: SOCY 110 or SOCY 121, or permission of instructor.

V. Course Description: 

This seminar offers reading and/or research orientation in a specialized area selected by departmental staff.

Note(s): It may be taken for a total of six hours credit when topics differ.

VI. Detailed Description of Content of the Course:

Content for the course will be determined by the instructor in consultation with the Department Curriculum Committee.

VI. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course:

Heavy emphasis will be placed upon student discussion of pertinent materials. Occasional lectures may also be utilized.

VII. Goals and Objectives of the Course:

Students will examine a subdiscipline of sociology they may not otherwise experience.

VIII. Assessment Measures:

Students may be evaluated on the basis of their performance in class discussions, on essay examinations, and on papers and projects.

 

Other Course Information: Since the instructor for this course changes each time the course is taught, the requirements for students to receive graduate credit for the course will be determined by each instructor, and included in his or her syllabus.
