THEA 334: Theatre Design III
Prerequisites: THEA 330
Credit Hours: (3)Two hours lecture; two hours laboratory
Concentrated study of design for scenery, lighting and costuming. Students may elect but are not required to focus in two areas of design. Students will work to refine their collaborative and organizational skills needed for their selected areas.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
The purpose of the course is to allow students to develop a more focused approach to their selected areas. Students will continue working with rendering mediums and computer generated drafting. Students will begin the preliminary work needed for their professional portfolio.
1. Students will continue working with combinations of mediums for renderings.
2. Students will generate CAD drafting plates as needed for projects.
3. Students will continue work on sketching/drawing skills.
4. Students will continue the exploration of the collaborative process by developing projects for their selected design area.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
An informal approach in which the discovery of the principles used in scenery, lighting and costuming will be emphasized.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
1. Students will generate appropriate CAD drafting for their areas to include but not limited to elevations, sections, etc.
2. Students will generate renderings using appropriate mediums for their areas.
3. Students will produce 4 designs within their selected areas.
4. Students will submit a research bible for each design project.
5. Students will write concept statements and justifications for their design work for each project.
Assessment Measures
Graded assignments will include but are not limited to the completion and presentation of a theatrical design in two or more of the areas. Students will present a working portfolio. Students will also present a research bible and written concept papers for each design.
