Traditions Week

First-Year Field Day, Halfway There, Junior Twilight, Senior Signing and RUC Zen Fest each mark milestones, recognize accomplishments and ignite Highlander pride in freshman, sophomore, junior and senior students on main campus. The week ends with a free campus concert in the Dedmon Center!

Freshmen, celebrate the successful completion of your first year at Radford! All first-year students are welcome to attend this free event. Attendees will enjoy games, snacks, music, competition and free swag. Share your photos using #RadfordTraditions and #FieldDay.

Sophomores, celebrate the halfway mark to commencement! You will receive a challenge coin that holds wisdom and well-wishes of students before you. Speak your own wisdom into that coin as you toss it in the fountain!

Juniors, share your hopes and commitments for your senior year at Radford University! This free event has music, games and prizes. Junior attendees are issued a custom Radford University keychain that is registered to them and can't be found anywhere else!

Seniors, come "sign off" on your next journey – whether its graduate school, starting your career, joining the military or chasing your dreams! This event is in partnership with Alumni Relations and the Center for Career and Talent Development. Have your photo taken with the Highlander, decorate your graduation caps and pick up your cords and stoles. We even have a special gift for each senior!

The RUC Spring Renewal highlights the incredible dedication and hard work of all RUC students. This event will be held on the Reid Lawn just down the hill from the campus building. RUC Highlanders will have an opportunity to engage, leave a legacy, celebrate, and get free snacks and a very special gift to commemorate 2024!

The concert is free to Radford University students and co-sponsored by DAP and R-SPaCE. Students, faculty, and staff must present Radford University ONE Card and ticket to enter the Dedmon Center. General Admission ticketing is not available. However, each Radford student and employee is allowed to purchase two guest tickets ($40 per ticket). Guests must present the ticket for entry.  A free charter bus ride is provided from Roanoke to Radford (and back) for the first 50 RUC students who wish to attend. 

All persons entering the venue are subject to search. To protect the safety of our students, guests, and staff, the following items are prohibited:

    • Professional cameras (detachable lens) 
    • Recording (audio or video) equipment 
    • Coolers/Containers (unless containing medical supplies)
    • Fireworks / Explosive / Weapons of any kind
    • Vape pens or smoking devices
    • Illegal substances
    • Bags or backpacks (small clutch purses no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches are permitted)
    • Laser pointers
    • Outside food or beverage
    • Animals (except service animals)
    • Selfie sticks
    • Signs, flags, banners
    • Umbrellas
    • Any other item deemed inappropriate by public safety personnel
