Veteran Organizations

Student Veterans Organization

The Student Veterans Organization at Radford University is a chapter of the national Student Veterans of American, SVA. The organization’s mission is “To provide military veterans with the resources, support, and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education and following graduation.”

The heart of the SVA is the student-led chapter. The current President of the Radford University chapter is Chandler Scott, cscott674@radford.edu.  Dr. Jim Newman, jnewman19@radford.edu, and Deanna Mabe, dmabe4@radford.edu, serves as the faculty advisors. The mission of the chapter is to:

  • Provide a social group to help veterans and their families adjust to academia

  • Promote Radford University spirit while maintaining a veteran fellowship

  • Provide valuable information to veterans

  • Assist with veteran integration on campus

Salute Honor Society

The SALUTE Honor Society is a nationally recognized chapter of the SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society founded and headquartered at Colorado State University.  We strive to recognize deserving military and veterans who maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher.  We are also here to maintain a group of like-minded and focused individuals for future networking. Dr. Jim Newman, jnewman19@radford.edu serves as the faculty advisor.

Veterans of Foreign Wars

The VFW has a Radford chapter. It meets at 102 Watts St on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.

Marine Corps League

The New River Valley Detachment #1190 of the Marine Corps League meets the at 7 pm the  3rd Tuesday of the month at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge in Radford, 104 Pulaski Street. Buddy Checks are the 22nd of every month from 6-8 pm at Macado’s in Radford, 510 East Main St.
