Ensuring that employees and students are adequately trained in health and safety principles is an important function of the Environmental Health and Safety Office. EHS is responsible for developing training programs for employees and works with professors to ensure that students receive proper safety training.
Several safety training programs are OSHA mandated such as Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogens, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Protection, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, and Laboratory Safety. In addition, EHS conducts training sessions in general safety topics such as heat stress, ergonomics, slips trips, falls, and material handling.
Training should be conducted when a new employee is hired or transferred to a new job, when new equipment is installed, a new task is assigned, or any time a lack of employee knowledge may create a hazardous condition. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that their employees receive the proper training.
Please refer to the Registration Instructions [PDF] and the Van Protocol [PDF] before proceeding with the training.
We are transitioning from classroom style training to an on line training format. The Passenger Van Safety Awareness Training course is accessed through the D2L platform. Upon successful completion, the student receives a certificate that can be printed and retained for documentation.
Participants need to email us at ehs@radford.edu with a copy of their final certification and also their employee/student ID number. The information will be shared with Facilities Management that will serve as verification which is required to rent and/or drive a van.
Certification remains current but it is strongly recommended that individuals drive a van for a minimum of 15 miles per year. Otherwise, the training should be retaken.
