2024-2025 Committee Objectives

Introduction

The following committee objectives provide a foundation for the Faculty Senate’s work in 2024-2025. Each committee should attempt to accomplish all objectives. These objectives are not intended to be all-inclusive—any committee member, other Senators, and the Faculty Senate Executive Council (FSEC) may refer other issues to the committee for consideration and action. Feel free to form subcommittees as needed to address specific objectives more expeditiously. Additional items will be referred to committees as new recommendations are made by members of our faculty.

All committees should record minutes of their meetings. Minutes and other committee documents (e.g., reports) should be forwarded to the Senate secretary (gpollick@radford.edu) for posting by the Faculty Senate.

Campus Environment Committee Charges for 2024-2025

1. Liaise with SGA about possible shared initiatives/concerns/etc.  
2. Follow up on exploration of issues around a University Club, Partnerships with Highlander Hotel  
3. Prepare questions for report on plans for Dalton  
4. Work with administration to develop transportation plan for Radford to Roanoke in anticipation of moving 1st and 2nd year to Main campus and Upper-level Healthcare programs to RUC & RHEC  
5. Prepare questions to be answered by the Vice President for Enrollment Management in anticipation of a report to the full senate  
6. Prepare report of results of the 2024 Faculty Morale Survey for presentation to full Senate  
7. Investigate the use of NSSE and FSSE (surveys), their importance, and their costs. Should we really be doing these things?  
8. Investigate the impact (negative?) of the 16-credit rule. Provost has done some analysis  
9. CEC is interested in identifying data that would demonstrate the burden of this policy. Specifically, whether the policy has resulted in fewer students engaging in research experiences, independent studies, etc.  
10. Prepare and implement the Faculty Morale Survey in Spring 2025 (If doing COACHE survey, will not need to do this) 

Curriculum Committee Charges for 2024-2025

1. General Education Reform (revise or take down and rebuild) 
2. Review and make recommendations on curriculum proposals 
3. Potentially provide guidance/feedback on for-credit micro-credentialing and academic partnerships initiatives 
4. Examine effects of APRE/Curriculum Life Cycle on Curricula  
5. Identify methods to prevent program and/or course duplication 
6. Textbook affordability – investigating automatic textbook billing.  

Faculty Issues Committee Charges for 2024-2025

1. Consider issues related to student evaluation of faculty, including: 
   1. When and how SEFs are released  
   2. Role of Personnel Committee (consistency across colleges/departments/programs, etc. chair) 
   3. Timeline for distribution 
   4. Student evaluation of faculty and of courses in Academic Partnerships, Impact, and other Radford-branded academic initiatives outside Academic Affairs. 
2. Review Appeals processes in Appeals document and Handbook to ensure alignment. Make sure that the timelines are flexible and reasonable to be carried out.  
3. Consider faculty concerns regarding potential changes to the academic calendar and changes to the class schedules 
4. Review the role of Personnel Committees across the University and consider issues related to consistency and equity. 
5. Collaborate with RAC to address issues surrounding travel funding  
6. Review recommendations from salary compensation study that affect faculty and receive clarity on whether and when changes are to be expected and how the changes will be implemented moving forward.  
7. Discuss pros and cons of changes to Student Convocation and Faculty Convocation from faculty point of view. Consider any improvements. 

Governance Committee Charges for 2024-2025

1. Liaise with APRE and/or Associate Provost in the event that changes are proposed for the composition and charges of that committee (Curriculum Life Cycle)  
2. Review assessment processes, timelines, performance and assessment data for non-degree granting units in Academic Affairs  
3. Administer the deans’ evaluation in the spring  
4. Consider revisions to T&R Language for the Dean Selection Process  
5. Review and make recommendations on pathways and processes for merging of departments, colleges, etc.  
6. Review and Recommend Academic Governance Document Changes (FS Handbook, and Policies to ensure language is consistent across all documents)

Resource Allocation Committee Charges for 2024-2025

1. Examine where lab fees end up and whether they can and should be moved into colleges that teach labs 
2. Collaborate with FIC to address issues surrounding travel funding 
3. Liaise with UPBAC and report to Senate on the work of that committee 
4. Meet with VPFA to get updated information on compensation study and advocate for better communication regarding same. 
5. Continue exploration of issues regarding Academic Partnerships. 
   1. Consider especially the student evaluation of faculty and of courses in Academic Partnerships and draft new handbook language as necessary. 
   2. Similarly, receive a report on the status of Impact and other Radford-branded academic initiatives outside Academic Affairs.
