Checks issued from Radford University that have not been cashed within three monthsof the issue date are considered outstanding. Due diligence procedures performed at
this time include sending a written reminder to the payee giving him the option of
either cashing the check or requesting a replacement check if it has been lost or
stolen. If no response is received from the payee and the check is over one year old,
again every effort is made to contact the payee and inform him of his claim to the
monies. If we again do not receive a response, the unclaimed monies are forwarded
to the Virginia Department of the Treasury, Unclaimed Property Division. At this point,
if the payee chooses to claim the funds, he mustcontact the Commonwealth.
