Intensive English Program Curriculum

American Culture

As part of the American culture course, you will be encouraged to participate in university events and clubs to get involved in campus life. You will also participate in frequent field trips and service learning opportunities to expand your understanding of American culture, the English language, and global citizenship.

Reading, Writing, and Vocabulary Curriculum

Courses in Reading and Vocabulary, along with Writing and Grammar, will help prepare students to complete written college assignments in English. We’ll progress through coursework, improving your understanding of English language writing with increased confidence and fluency.

Speaking and Listening Curriculum

As part of the Listening/Speaking course, you will have the chance to visit undergraduate classes in order to self-assess your language readiness for undergraduate studies.

Placement and Progression

Depending on your placement exam results after you arrive on campus, you will be placed in the beginner, intermediate, or advanced level. Before progressing to the next level, you must pass your courses, produce satisfactory writing samples, and have good class attendance.

If you have been admitted under the Conditional Admissions program, once you meet all of the necessary requirements for completing the Intensive English program, you will receive a certificate of completion and be considered for admission into academic studies at Radford University. You will not need to take any English proficiency exams.
