Bea Covington sought to make the university a warmer and more welcoming place for students, faculty, staff and visitors. This award is presented annually at the staff picnic to a staff member who best exemplifies the loving character and spirit of Bea. Staff members may be nominated by their colleagues. Nominees should consistently demonstrate a positive attitude, are fun to be around and treat others with dignity, respect and kindness.
Nominations are due by May 2, 2025.
The award was established in 2006 to honor the late wife of former President Douglas Covington. The award is given to a person who exemplifies the character and spirit of Mrs. Covington. Individuals are nominated by their colleagues and, according to award guidelines, “consistently demonstrate a positive attitude, are fun to be around and treat others with dignity, respect and kindness.”

The award criteria is based on one or more of the following: Energy and Water Conservation, Waste Reduction/ Recycling, Economic Impact, Behavior Change and/or Awareness.Award Eligibility: Classified and 1500-hour Staff
