Academic Programs & Admission

Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and is reviewed and monitored by the Professional Advisory Council. The School of Social Work is one of three academic schools in the Waldron College of Health and Human Services, which is located in a brand new building that provides internship opportunities for social work students. The School’s main campus is in Radford, and we also have a premajor BSW program in Roanoke at Virginia Western Community College.

Master of Social Work (MSW)

The Master of Social Work program at Radford University focuses on community-based family practice, allowing students to acquire a blend of direct family practice skills coupled with an understanding and appreciation of human diversity. Our students develop the ability to practice clinically with diverse, self-defined families and to partner with them to make skillful contributions to the family-community continuum. The program seeks to develop within each of its students the rich intellectual and ethical capacities necessary for skillful and compassionate social work practice.

Field Program

Field work is the part of Social Work that everyone is waiting for! Motivations for going into the field may be many, but underlying most is a great love for people and a desire to add our own small part to the building up of a new and better world. The Field Program is where you pull all of your learning together and where all of the theories begin to make sense as you come to understand people and situations within their real world context.
