State Training Requirements

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management, the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management have collaborated to produce two online training modules that will provide you with critical information to prepare for workplace hazards and emergencies.

  • Virginia State Employee Safety and Disaster Awareness Training - developed by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and required of all employees annually. This training will discuss important ways to keep yourself, friends, family and coworkers safe at work and at home, regardless of the hazards you may encounter. The training will also provide additional resources that can ensure you are threat-ready as a state employee.
  • Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) - developed by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and required of all employees. This course has been designed to improve the safety and survivability of victims of active attack and mass shooting events through introduction of the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy.

These training modules are currently available to you in the Commonwealth of Virginia Learning Center.  For information on accessing the VLC, please visit Radford University Human Resources..
