Part-time employees hold a variety of positions, as outlined below.
Under the Virginia Manpower Control Act, wage employees are restricted in the number of hours they can work during the measurement period from May 1st to April 30th each year. This provision applies to all non-covered employment types, including student wage and adjunct positions. Once an employee reaches the 1,500-hour limit across all positions, they may not be permitted to work again until the following May 1st. No exceptions to the 1,500-hour limit are allowed.
These employees are required to submit web time entry timesheets each pay period for actual hours worked in order to receive payment. They are eligible for overtime pay.
Adjunct Faculty are hired on limited-term contracts and are ineligible for tenure. They hold appointments for up to three years, during which they may receive teaching assignments and compensation, though these are not guaranteed. Adjunct Faculty are considered part-time employees and should not be assigned more than a total of 29 hours of workload per week across the university in a given academic year. They are paid biweekly in equal installments based on the courses assigned and contracts acknowledged.
