Part time employees hold a variety of positions as described below.
Per a provision in the Virginia Manpower Control Act, wage employees are limited in the number of hours they can work in the measurement period from May 1st through April 30th each year. The Manpower Control Act pertains to all types of non-covered employment including student wage and adjunct. An employee who has reached the 1500-hr limit across all positions may not be permitted to work again until the following May 1st. No exceptions to the 1,500-hour limit are permitted. 1500-hr wage employees submit web time entry timesheets each period for actual hours worked in order to be paid. Eligible for overtime pay.
Adjunct Faculty teach on a limited-term contract and are ineligible for tenure. Adjunct Faculty hold appointments for three years during which they are eligible, but are not guaranteed, teaching assignments or pay during that period. Adjuncts should not be assigned, university wide, more than a total of 29 hours workload per week, in a given academic year as they are considered part-time employees. Adjuncts are paid biweekly in equal installments based on courses assigned and contracts acknowledged.
