The Accounting Certificate is for students who possess an undergraduate degree but would like to re-tool to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam. Applicants entering this certificate program would be seeking a career in accounting.

The purpose of this minor is to provide students with a solid foundation in the critical areas of accounting.

The Special Education: Adapted Curriculum K-12 concentration is for those who will work with students with complex disabilities who require an individualized, adapted curriculum and specialized supports to gain access to the general education curriculum and learn within K-12 general education settings.

African American Studies is an interdisciplinary field that explores and critically examines the unique cultural, political, economic, and historical experiences of African Americans.

This major prepares students for graduate and professional schools in allied health professions (e.g. occupational therapy, physical therapy, athletic training) or entry-level, non-licensed positions. Students also get engaging, hands-on experiences that provide the practical skills necessary to be successful in graduate school.

The minor in American Sign Language teaches communication competency in a visual language. Students become knowledgeable about aspects of the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community and culture.

Anthropologists work in a myriad of organizations with dynamic, fast-paced jobs that lean into the scientific background, knowledge, and skills learned in the program. Whether in a lab, at a desk, or in the field - your skills in anthropology will give you broad opportunities in commerce, research, and service opportunities.

The Anthropological Sciences minor offers students an introduction to the field of anthropology. After a few required courses that lay the foundation of the field, students will select electives in different areas of anthropology.

The graduate certificate in Appalachian Studies builds on the foundations of our undergraduate interdisciplinary minor.

The Appalachian Studies minor provides students with an understanding of the heritages, environments, and cultures of the Appalachian region, while first questioning the very notion of what Appalachia is and what it may mean to be Appalachian.

The Applied History minor gives students the opportunity to gain knowledge and acquire skills that will enable them to pursue careers in a variety of professions related to the practice of history.

This minor serves to introduce students to the study of prehistory through archaeological methods and analysis. Students will be introduced to a broad overview of human prehistory and the methods used to study it and then choose from elective classes to explore the prehistory of cultural regions of interest to them.

Students learn how to create images and objects that express personal, cultural, or commercial ideas. They connect with and respond to influential artists, designers, and thinkers from diverse cultures and historical periods, and they explore human themes like beauty, politics, and identity. Our students gain ways of knowing themselves, express ideas, and understand people and cultures, of today and yesterday.

A combination of art and education courses helps student develop an artist-educator identity. Graduates from the B.F.A. in Art with a concentration in art education are fully prepared to teach at any K-12 level or in museums, and some choose to pursue graduate programs for art therapy. This concentration is highly regarded with alumni teaching in school districts across the region and state.

The Art History Minor consists of 21 semester hours of Art History courses (excluding ART 100).

The B.A. in Art with a concentration in art history offers interdisciplinary studies of historical and contemporary objects, styles, and topics. Students develop strong research, writing and analytical skills. The concentration prepares students for work in galleries, libraries and museums and the pursuit of graduate studies in the humanities.

Reach new creative heights with our M.F.A. degree with concentrations in Studio Art or Design Thinking. Graduate students receive individualized instruction from accomplished artists and art historians. Students benefit from group critiques, studio visits, workshops with visiting artists, and in-depth experiences to solve complex design problems.

Students are required to take at least 30 credit hours of general education designated courses within their degree requirements. The Astronomy minor includes 11 general education credits.

The Master of Science in Athletic Training Program develops students’ expertise in sports medicine and athletic healthcare. The program offers clinical experiences in settings such as high schools, colleges, industrial, esports, and performing arts that will help prepare you for board certification as an athletic trainer. 

The Certificate of Autism Studies is designed to prepare personnel to educate and support individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), which includes autism, Asperger syndrome, and other pervasive developmental disorders.

The Biology program offers you the opportunity to develop your science identity through authentic, research-based learning experiences in and outside of the classroom.  Each of our unique pathways through our major provides a learning experience that aligns well with your career aspirations, including in biological science, biomedical sciences, environmental science, or education and community outreach.

The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science prepares students with a solid scientific foundation essential for an understanding of human health and disease. The program is the first step in preparing for medical school, physician assistant programs, dental school, pharmacy school and other professional schools.

The online Master of Business Administration degree program provides a broad-based, cross-functional education in core business areas such as operations management, marketing, accounting, finance and strategic management.

The minor in business administration is open only to students majoring in the B.S. degree in Economics or programs outside the Davis College of Business and Economics.

This micro-credential introduces a three-tiered framework of classroom management that creates environments where successful learning experiences are highly probable for K-12 students. You will learn about the foundation of PBIS and the research that supports this approach to classroom management.

Students in the coaching minor will describe and analyze multiple levels of influences on sport and coaching and will reflect on their skills and abilities as a future coach

The Leadership and Military Science minor program is designed to supplement any major and will be available to all university students. It will provide students with a foundation to enter the workforce after graduation.

A degree in communication at Radford University will prepare you to develop special knowledge and skills in regard to conflict, relationships, public relations, political campaigns, and more. Our concentrations are Public Relations and Communication Studies. Majors choose one of these to pursue as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.

The minor in Communication consists of 18 credit hours in COMS courses.

In our program you will gain a foundational understanding of typical speech, language, and hearing development and a basic knowledge of the assessment and treatment of a variety of communication disorders. Examples include developmental language disorders, speech sound disorders, aphasia, and hearing loss. The B.S. in Computer Science at Radford prepares you for in-demand careers with core elements of software engineering, data management, computer science, and cybersecurity. ABET-accredited programs include real-world, hands-on opportunities and experiences that provide a foundation for success using cutting-edge technology and practices.

The Conservation Law Enforcement minor educates students on the wildlife conservation principles relevant to crime and law enforcement, including American and international wildlife crime issues and the law enforcement responses.

The M.S. in Counseling and Human Development includes two concentrations. The clinical mental health counseling program trains counselors by providing hands-on experience and teaching them about different counseling approaches. The school counseling program prepares school counselors to support students in grades K-12, these counselors take on leadership and advocacy roles to help all students.

The Radford University Psy.D. program in Counseling Psychology is closing and no longer accepting students. Because of this, the program has requested, and been granted “Accredited, Inactive” status by the American Psychological Association’s Commission on Accreditation.

Creative Arts and Design is an all-encompassing arts minor offered by the College of Visual and Performing Arts is designed to give a broad perspective and understanding of the cultural and expressive nature of the creative arts disciplines.

Shape stories, creative essays, poems, and plays; study craft; workshop your pieces; give and take feedback; and explore avenues for publication. 

The work product of a crime analyst can be used to inform tactical and strategic decision making, support investigative efforts, assist in the study of resource needs, and facilitate the development of criminal justice policy.

The Crime Analysis and Criminal Intelligence minor is designed to provide theoretical, conceptual, and practical background for crime analysis and criminal intelligence.

The B.A. and B.S. in Criminal Justice provides students with the background for understanding crime, its causes, and the criminal justice system's response to crime. The curriculum is interdisciplinary in nature and courses provide students with the research and analytical skills necessary for understanding the nature of justice and the issues that affect its implementation.

The graduate program in criminal justice allows students to prepare for management and other careers in criminal justice and related fields. The program is designed both to enhance students' existing capabilities and to develop unique competencies and skills for future academic and career goals. Choose between two degree options Master of Arts or Master of Science.

The Criminal Justice minor provides students with the background for understanding crime, its causes, portions of the criminal justice system and their responses to crime, as well as researching crime.

This minor serves to introduce students to the study of the variation in cultural expression seen in different groups around the world. Students will be introduced to a broad overview of human cultural diversity and then choose from elective classes to explore different culture groups and the ways we explore cultural expression.

This non-licensure concentration in the M.S. in Education program provides participants with knowledge, skills and dispositions in the areas of high impact teaching strategies, cultural responsiveness, instructional technology, and globalization of the curriculum and interdisciplinary teaching.

This concentration allows you to get licensure plus a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in as little as 18 months (depending on licensure area and previous coursework).

The cybersecurity field focuses on protecting networks, data, software, and computing resources from changes, unauthorized access, or destruction.  Students will learn the technical foundation to work in public and private organizations to protect data and the foundational policies and procedures necessary for organizations to ensure the safe handling of data and management of resources.

The Dance program at Radford University prepares undergraduate students for lives and careers as dancers, teachers, choreographers, and scholars. Our curriculum fosters an environment committed to dance as an autonomous and major art form and realizes the many significant roles dance plays in world cultures.

The Radford University M.S. in Data and Information Management combines traditional classroom learning with practical experience, resulting in a curriculum that challenges students to solve real problems for real clients. Class discussions build a theoretical foundation reinforced with hands-on projects enabling students to engage with faculty and industry partners in our advanced and  high-tech collaborative workspace.

The IMPACT Data Science Credential was developed in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Chief Data Officer’s office and was designed to increase workforce capacity in the areas of data science and other high demand fields.

For students interested in teaching children and youth who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, Radford University offers a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing, PreK-12 concentration in the Master of Science degree in Special Education with Virginia licensure prepares teachers to work with deaf and hard of hearing students of all ages.

Design plays a crucial role in shaping the world around us, from the spaces we inhabit to the products we use every day. Students in our program learn the business, history, psychology, and philosophy of design, and they create their own original work.

A minor in Design Appreciation will provide an understanding of design’s principles, theories and history allowing students to gain a basic knowledge of design and how design impacts our daily lives where we work and live. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA (within both the minor’s course requirements and overall) in order to receive the minor.

Design Studies Minor in Applied Design and Culture provides a basis of design psychology, history, design business, and design computer applications. Students will learn how people interact with their environment (interior and exterior). Students design solutions using industry specific software (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) which might be utilized in the design internship. Students complete a summer internship as a result of this minor and they critically reflect on their internship learning experience as it relates to professional contexts of their chosen major and intended career/business field through written reflection paper after completing the required minimum internship. This minor combines two REAL letter designations to provide students with a more holistic view of design and its importance in the world.

Design Studies in Culture provides students with an overview of design psychology, where students actually learn about specific human behavior theories and evaluate first hand through a variety of observation techniques.

"Design Studies in Professional Practice Minor provides students the opportunity to prepare and identify career opportunities within the design profession or an allied field. Students apply knowledge acquired within the field and professional interactions to reflect on their experiences. Students learn about practicing design in a global market and understanding the elements of business practices.Learning experiences within the minor include: professional resume and cover letter preparation, applying active listening skills an interviewing techniques, producing clear objectives and goals to inform their professional career path, and identify career opportunities within the design fashion/interiors profession and/or allied professions. In addition, students will learn how to leverage their professional skills within the context of community service work."

The online Design Thinking Certificate requires students to complete 15-credit hours of graduate level coursework that empowers them to strategize, plan, and solve complex problems across a multitude of venues.

The design thinking concentration is a 100% online, terminal degree that provides students with in-depth experiences using the design process to solve complex problems.

The B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies, Early Childhood Special Education concentration prepares students to teach and work in early care and education settings with children with and without disabilities.

The concentration in Early Childhood Special Education prepares graduates to work with and advocate for infants and young children with developmental delays and disabilities, birth to five, and their families in a variety of early intervention, home and school settings.

Economists study individual decision-making behavior, as well as the system of social, political, cultural and commercial environments where these decisions happen. Economics employs many quantitative tools to analyze behaviors and the consequences of choices (market outcomes, industry trends, economy-wide performance). This program gives students a brief exposure to the empirical tools and methods used in economic analysis which can enhance their primary field of study.

The Education minor is designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of human learning as it occurs in formalized educational contexts. Students who complete the minor requirements will have completed the pre-professional coursework necessary to apply to the Teacher Education Program for secondary programs (Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, English) should they so choose. The Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership is designed to prepare professional personnel to fill positions as PK-12 school principals or instructional supervisors. Successful completion of this fully online program will lead to an endorsement in PK-12 school administration and supervision.

Students in the B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies, Elementary Education concentration are distinguished by their ability to create inclusive learning environments for diverse students. Realism is at the heart of our Emergency Services program. When emergencies happen, first responders are on the front lines providing care, managing crises, and rescuing those in need. With Carilion Clinic, students prepare to face these challenges in a variety of professions on the entry and management levels.

The minor in Emergency Services is open to all majors and provides an opportunity for students to learn critical thinking skills in the emergency environment, while exploring evidence-based practice modalities.

A B.B.A. in Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship provides students the opportunity to learn the skills and mindset needed to effectively create, own and manage their own business or to act as intrapreneurial leaders within existing organizations. 

The Minor in Entrepreneurship is open to all majors except management majors. It provides students an opportunity to learn the innovation skills and mindset needed to effectively create and manage their own business or to execute intrapreneurial projects in existing organizations.

The Environmental Studies minor at Radford University is designed to address the local to global scale environmental and sustainability issues in our world. This program shows students the interrelationships and spatial connections between scientific and quantitative reasoning and cultural and behavioral analysis with a flexible curriculum needed to train the next generation of conservationists, community leaders, politicians, and scientists.

The minor in esports services focuses on play, community, team-building, inclusion, marketing, and event planning. Offered jointly with the English and Marketing Departments, this minor will prepare students for careers in this burgeoning field. Courses include those dedicated to the esports ecosystem, game design, and marketing. Depending on personal interests, students are able to choose a supportive elective such as writing, leadership, or special events.

The Ethics minor is a broadly applicable minor that introduces students to ethics in PHIL 112 - Introduction: Ethics and Society (GE) and PHIL 115 - Wicked Problems (GE) . The minor additionally offers courses in healthcare ethics, environmental ethics, professional ethics, and ethics from other disciplinary perspectives.

The Exercise and Sport Science minor is open to all students outside the Health and Human Performance department at Radford University.

Radford University’s Exercise, Sport and Health Education (ESHE) major is a great fit for students with a passion for sports and exercise. The ESHE program offers two concentrations: Health and Exercise Science and Physical and Health Education. You will emerge prepared for graduate education and careers in health promotion, fitness training, coaching, physical education teaching, exercise physiology, among other fields.

The goal and intent of our two-year, full-time, Experimental Psychology specialization in the M.A. in Psychology program is to prepare competent professionals by providing students with advanced training in research methodology, data analysis and the core principles of psychology (social, cognitive, developmental, behavioral neuroscience, etc.).

The Family Nurse Practitioner program prepares registered nurses with graduate-level academic knowledge and clinical skills to practice in the roles of clinicians, educators, and leaders. Family nurse practitioners diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions, partnering with patients to maintain health and wellness, with a focus on preventative care.

The Family Nurse Practitioner concentration of the D.N.P. program prepares graduates with the knowledge and skills to synthesize and apply theories, clinical reasoning, and research in the treatment of individuals, families and groups across the lifespan.

The Minor in Forensic Science is an interdisciplinary pre-professional minor designed for students with interests or career goals in Forensic Science. It complements any major, but is especially appropriate for students with an Anthropological Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Criminal Justice, or ITEC major. It provides students with the scientific academic background and work experience in basic principles in the applied Forensic Sciences, including Forensic Chemistry, Biology, Forensic Anthropology, Criminalistics, and Digital Forensics (Computer Security).The Forensic Science (FS) Minor is administered and supervised by the RU Forensic Science Institute (RUFSI). Students who wish to minor in Forensic Science must consult with RUFSI director for advising and assistance with meeting graduation requirements. Ideally, the course of study for Forensic Science Minors is tailored to meet the needs of each specific student in the minor, depending upon their major, interests, and career goals. To graduate with a Minor in Forensic Science, a student must have a grade of 'C-' or higher in all courses taken for the minor.

The Forensic Studies Interdisciplinary Minor provides students with understanding of criminal investigations, forensic science, and laboratory science. The minor is geared toward students interested in pursuing law enforcement, investigation, or crime scene investigator careers.

The Art minor consists of 21 semester hours of art courses.

At Radford University, our traditional graduate program in special education: general curriculum leads to a master’s degree and eligibility for a license to teach special education in kindergarten through grade 12.

The Geology program at Radford prepares you for a professional career, graduate study in the field, or for licensure to teach earth and space science. Offering a wide variety of emphases, we take particular pride in our environmental and engineering concentration which provides you with hands-on experience.

The Geology Minor provides students with a broad background in Earth processes, materials, human interactions with Earth, and environmental topics such as climate change. Health and Aging is an interprofessional minor for students who are interested in specialized knowledge regarding biopsychosocial development in older adulthood. Museum professionals work as curators, educators, exhibition designers, and in community outreach. The professional pathway is usually a graduate degree but the minor will provide a valuable introduction to this profession. Physics is essential to understanding our modern technological society and is the foundation for all the natural sciences. The problem-solving skills learned in physics can be applied everywhere on scales from subatomic particles to the entire universe. The Department of Psychology offers a Minor in Psychology, which consists of 18 hours of course work. Half of the credits applied to the minor must be take at Radford University or Radford University Carillion.

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health is an interdisciplinary degree that prepares you to improve community health and wellness through education, advocacy, and service. The minor in public health consists of 15 semester hours which include 4 required courses and a choose of 1 elective course. All courses are delivered in a synchronous, on-line format.
